Anyone have any experience with one of these? Looks like an older model.
http://www.bfgstore.com/Produc...GS600WPSU&Show=ExtInfo

I've tried searching and what I've read is conflicting.

I'm trying to get away with only spending $50 or less on a new PSU (yeah, I know) for a new Phenom II build, no SLI/crossfire but I'm overclocking the CPU. Its replacing a Sparkle 400PN thats been in steady use for 2 years. They've also got the GS-550 over there for $10 less, and I can get a Corsair 400CX for around $44 but that doesn't give me much more on the 12v rail than my Sparkle.

It is a really old model. I actually purchased two of them years ago. They put out around 39A on the +12v (468W) and are kind of like a server PSU in that the unit is just chromed, heavy and with a noisy 80mm fan. I gave one to a friend of mine who is running a Core 2 Duo with a GTX 260. Don't remember what I did with the other, but I no longer have it.

My unprofessional opinion: It seems reasonably solid, but pretty noisy**. A bit weak on +12v compared to more modern units.

**Note that I'm a recovering "quiet freak."

If its a solid unit with good caps from a reputable OEM (someone mentioned Acbel?) I'll have to consider it, 39A is more than others I'm looking at and noise isn't a big deal. The 30 day warranty gives me pause, though. I wonder where they found these?

... in the back of the warehouse? Seriously though, it is in the "scratch and dent" section of BFGstore. There is text in RED in the overview section:

Note: Because this is a Scratch n' Dent product it is only covered under a 30 day warranty. This is a refurbished product that has been 100% tested by our support staff, but may have physical blemishes on the exterior of the product and does not ship in the retail package.

If it were new, then not only would it have a full warranty, it would be more expensive.

If you do rebates, then check out the BFG LS-550 at Newegg. It is $60 after rebate and comes with a full 5-year warranty, a big and quiet fan and puts out a full 40A on the +12v rails. Oh yeah, it is not a refurb, and got recommendations from review sites such as HardOCP.

If you really are serious about getting one of these scratch 'n dent 600W units, LMK and maybe I can score you something, or at least toss some stickers into the box for you. Heck, if you can put up with noisy PSUs and a 30-day warranty you deserve a medal. ;)

I don't do rebates, and don't mind refurbs, scratch n dents, etc. That shipping stings a little bit though.

I just need a solid PSU with a decent amount of power on the 12v rail for around $50. Some site is selling EA-500D's for $40 shipped with a 30 day warranty, but I don't really trust them. Another no name site has a 700w Delta DPS-700FB for $55 shipped. BFG's got the GS-550 on their site new for $40+ship, but the consensus seems to be to stay away.

Consensus... where? The consensus at Newegg is nearly 100% five eggs.

The GS-550 is a newer design than the 600W, evidenced by efficiency and quietness. It is also a lower end design meant for a lower price point. It is certainly a decent unit but not top-notch.

What did shipping end up for you on that 600W?

Its not a bad unit but its rated at peak and at 25c, so I'm not sure it'll give me much more than my Fortron.

Shipping was $13 and change.

Well, you're outta luck on that 600W. I asked about it, and was told we were out of stock. It has been removed from BFGstore.
