i need information (diagrams, text, etc) on how these electronic access systems work. where you have a card with a magnetic strip, you slide it through a slot on a door, and it opens up.

basically i need to know how the thing you slide the card through works, and the process it goes through with a central computer to determine if it should open the door, and then the opening/locking.

i can't really find any info on manufacturers' web sites (i guess they don't want to give away their designs)

thanks

it probably has some code embeeded into it like a credit card stripe.....passes the code thru the system (totally a random guess though)

If you Paypal me $19.95, I'll also tell you how to convert a gun to full auto, win at Casino games, hack NASA, and be the life at parties.

most use a mag stripe. others are using the smart IC chip on them. even washers and dryers use them :)

for hotels. it all feeds into their comptuer system. if the code on the card matches the code meant for that room, electronic solenoid will latch/unlatch for that room. and voila! open sesame.

when you check into the hotel, the computer database selects a randomized code for the cards that are given to the customer. when you check out these codes are deleted and those cards that you have are souveniers. unless of course you return it and they rewrite the code for a new customer.

giving you diagrams or schematics of how these things work wouldn't be a good call.

it's really a simple thing. the code is verified and the door is allowed to open. i don't see how hard it is to think about it logically.....

BTW: how old are you? sheesh!
