I'm running 8 sticks of fb-dimm, 2 dual core xeons and a 10K hard drive as my main setup. What can I expect my power bill to do?

edit: oh, 850W psu... jeez I hope it's efficient.

Okay, three sticks DDR3, i7 @ 3.7 Ghz (3.9 turbo) with 1.375V, two Radeon 4850's, and three SATA hard drives. Should be a close match. :p

Indeed, Kill-a-Watt for the win. Mine comes out to about 450 loaded, meaning around 360-370 actual for the components.

Intel Core 2 Quad 9450 @ 3.2GHz, 12MB L2 1600MHz FSB
ASUS Rampage Formula
8GB G.Skill DDR2 at 1066MHz
(2) Raptors in RAID0
(2) ATi 4870 512MB in Crossfire
PC Power and Cooling 750W PSU
Tons of other components, fans, drives, etc...

My Kill-a-watt reads about 380-390W idle and up to 550-560W on load when playing Crysis using all 'high' settings and maxed AA/AF.

Hmm, that's not too bad then. I have a kill a watt. This thing measures ~260 without the vcard and @ idle.

OK, so let's say it is an average of 400W, and you pay $.12 per kwh, then it will cost you $.048 per hour. That is $1.15 per day, $34.56 per month (30 days), and $420.48 per year.

I'll have to shut down to check my main rig, but my new file and application server idles at 29 watts on the kill-a-watt.
Via mini-ITX 1 GHZ with 512MB ram
(2) WD green 1TB drives in RAID1
Gateway LCD power supply

Naw, IBM X series. It's a powerhouse but damned expensive and loud.

Thanks Tim for the price figures. Seems like a lot.... but then, a normal computer prolly uses half of that.

Iirc, my two dual core computers come out to about 550 watts full load together (4.2ghz & 2.4ghz). That's without gpu load, not a gamer. This is my office too, which overall is $30/mth electricity.

Nice low power server. I bought one a few months back, cept it's 800mhz via. Crazy processors, withstands heat like it's nothing.

Yes, but my PSU is overkill still. 750W PSU is overkill for my E7200 @ 3.8GHz, 3x1GB DDR2 800(It has LEDs!!! ZOMGZ), 2x4850s 512MB, 1 WD Green Power(BOOYAH) 1TB HDD, and... uhm.. fans? Oh and an optical drive, yah! woot..

Your PSU is not even in it's efficiency range with that system.

the computer i usually use runs somewhere under 80 watts on the kill-a-watt. the gaming computer runs about 145 at the desktop and 250 on the first level from COD4.
