I have two tiny little scratches on my tailgate that have been staring at me everytime I wash my car. I happened to be reading through the Mazda3Forums when I came across this post of a person that had amazing results with the stuff:

Anyone here had similar results with the product? I have a $15 AutoZone gift card and I've been trying to think of something to spend it on...this seems like a perfect choice.

From the description it almost sounds like really light cut rubbing compound. It couldn't hurt to try. If you think those scratches are bad, you should see my car. :D I have to take the buffer and my army of paint care stuff to it one day and see if I can bring it back from the dead.

Scratch X = fine rubbing compund. Rubbing Compund is like $2, Scratch X = $6 or more. Pure marketing.

Scratches can be removed if it is not through the he primer or bare metal. Best place to have em remvoed is buy a body shopp guy with some rubbing compund and a orbital.

If it can not be "buffed' out I suggest you use touch up paint.

Yeah, but how the hell does it work? If there is a physical scratch, how does it remove it? I mean, there is a physical break in the paint, so what fills in the space?

I had good luck in removing light scratches with 'polishing compound' on my Camry - never use rubbing compound on a car with a clear coat finish!

That tube of Scratch-X looks a lot like the Turtle Wax stuff I used.

I haven't had any luck with it myself... perhaps the scratches I was trying to use it on were just a bit too deep though... I'm not really sure...

 for it working for you though!

We need before and after pics, although I'd guess the chance of getting before shots is slim to none.

It doesn't remove physical breaks in the PAINT. It removes scratches in the CLEAR COAT, which is what you see in the mazda3forums link.

Rubbing compound is liquid sandpaper. Scratch X is probably a veeeeeery light cut rubbing compound. It works by "sanding" down the clearcoat past the scratch so that it disappears.

If you have a scratch that goes past the paint and you can see primer/metal, nothing is going to fix it outside of getting it touched up or repainted.

If you have scratches similar to the link, then get the lightest cut 3m rubbing compound you can find and work your way up. They are available at most auto parts stores. Follow with a polish and a wax.

Dont forget to polish and wax. There is now less clear coat there than you started with. Protect your paint.
