Anyone have first hand knowledge of the Zalman ZM400A-APF 400W PSU?

Cheers all. ;)

Did you get benefit from the "Noiseless and the Silent" mode? Accoring to Zalman's website -

The above results show that the Zalman product operates in 'Noiseless ' or ' Silent ' level when the power supply's internal temperature is kept below 56 Deg.C , and those were obtained in compliance with the 2nd Revision of ISO7779, an international standard for noise level measurement. Results may vary for a different system configuration and/or the test environment.

I mean was your case running less than 56 Deg. C?

Shagga,

I heartily recommend
Nexus 300w @ www.endpcnoise.com

I use it in my main gaming system, and it runs under 20 db. My brother has the same version in a 350w, and a 400w is also available. Incredibly quiet.

On the DSL front, I had the same problem with SBC in trying to get DSL in my area. For 6 months, they kept telling me I was within range, but couldn't tell me why it wouldn't work. I voted with my dollar, and dropped SBC local phone service, long distance, and my SBC/Direct TV. I ditched SBC totally and moved to an apartment where I could get Comcast cable. I now have phone, TV, and broadband internet over cable!

Thanx Metron. I'll check out those Nexus PSU's.

On another note I had a telephone call from my Local Authority as I am a Campaigne Manager for Broadband in my area. (Not a very good one it would appear ;)) However, things might start to move a little quicker as the Local Authority is pusing hard to get BB not only in the town centre but the surrounding villages....we wait and see...:)

I have this PS. It's great. It powers my beefy system, and it's silent. And I mean, silent. You can press your ear against the fan grill and not hear the thing. It barely moves any air. It only has one fan, keep that in mind.

But yeah, it completed my silent case. 5x Panaflo L1As, a Zalman 7000Cu, a Zalman ZM80C-HP w/ OP1 92mm fan. All are hooked up to a vantec fan controller. I usually keep it turned all the way down, and my loudest component is my hard drive(s).

One fan? Will this matter at all?

Shagga,

I run two 80mm fans, both Pabst 8412 NGL Case Fans (12db), which are also from EndPCNoise.com for $15.95 each.

I've also gone the quiet route, after running my multi-fan Athlon "Chainsaw". Check out my system rig at bottom for more details. The Zalman 7000 cpu fan is also a really nice CPU cooler, if you don't mind large.

Zalman 7000, in either AlCu ($35.99) or all copper ($42.99). The all copper is heavier, but has a more effective heat disapation. Both have an integrated fan at the center...

NewEgg link for both

It's incredibly quiet (under 20 db), and it has a fan speed control. Works for either Athlon or P4.

Best Regards,
Metron

Excellent. :) I'm on a quest for a quiet PC now. Problem is I have a P4 3.0GHz and a Radeon 9800Pro which are notoriously noisy anyway...I think I'm catching the "quiet" bug. :)

Ah, one of the lucky few who BT consider "uneconomical" to supply broadband to. Gotta love BT & their £50/sec profit rate. Marvellous.

(Apologies for the random incoherant post, it's late)

I have the exact same components. I put the Zalman ZM80C-HP on my video card, along w/ the OP1 fan, and I put the Zalman 700Cu on my CPU. I also put the Zalman copper heatsink thing on my northbridge. My computer is VERY quiet.

My server in the other room is all zalmanned out as well. I just install that psu and it is very quiet. I put the fanless hs on my northbridge and I have their geforce heatsink on my video card. My 120mm exhaust fan on the back tends to kill some of the benfit but I have it on a rheostat so it isnt that bad.

Shagga,

FYI... I'm running a P4 as well, and the stock cooler was very loud. The Zalman CPU fan makes a huge difference in itself. I also have a Radeon 9800, and I'm waiting on the OP-1 fan to install a Zalman heatpipe. Then my noise abatement project should be complete for now.

I still have my Athlon box, but I rarely turn it on. Too loud. <smirk>

At some point, I'll probably upgrade to a Barton or maybe an Athlon64, but I'll have to redo all the cooling for it.

AgentZap, Pabst makes a 120mm fan as well, check it out at EndPCNoise.com Speced at only 26 db, might help out...

Thanks for that. I have ordered the Zalman ZM400A-APF PSU to give it a go and the Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu CPU cooler. Going to have a look at the OP-1 fan and the Zalman heatpipe. Sounds interesting. ;)
