Fiancee loves fireplaces. I'd love to have a big wood one, but we're renting from now until we get out of school, so I'm thinking about picking up a ventless one. I've found some gel systems for $200 here

Starting to research it, figured someone here has done it before, posted.

My brother has one and likes it. The name is really misleading, though. They aren't "ventless" - they just vent into the room.

Do you know if he went with gas or gel?

Check room size. Ventless gas require the room to be a min. cubic ft. I have had a couple installed but they were in the $2000 range each.

We had our screen in porch converted into a sun room. In the winter, it's prety damn cold in there since it has no heating/cooling ducts. So my dad put a ventless gas stove in it. We had it for 1 winter and sold it. You could really smell the gas. He then bought a different gas stove with a vent and we've had that for 5+ years now.
