For a drive dock station? I am changing my backup solution to use a sata dock as it is hot swap and my backup server has kicked the bucket. So I will hook up the dock to the server and I can hot swap drives out of it as jobs are done, rather then have to shut down and reboot the backup server like before (was IDE drives). Sata drives are also more ready available.
I was thinking of going a step further, and running a couple cat6 jacks to my room and I could use one of those USB extenders so I can put the dock in my room instead of the basement. I will remember to swap the drives out more often that way, I'll just have to go on the server to make sure there's no backup in progress...
I can't see why it would not work, but just want to see if anyone has ever used one of these USB extenders for a storage system (dock, external drive, etc). They are kinda pricy, but very versatile.
