Anyone have experience with the E7xxx wolfdale series when it comes to ocing?

Sorry been out of the loop lately.....

Just looking to see what the 45nm die shrink has added to the ocing ability of the intel lineup.....

Most all of MY intel dual cores and quad cores have done 3.4ghz stable and some 3.5ghz stable, but that was with the older 65nm chips.

I woudl like a dual core capable of 3.8 to 4ghz. I am going to use a water chiller on it...

Duvie, nearly all of the E8400's and E8500's are doing ~4 Ghz on air. So are the majority of the $130 E7200's. None of the 45nm quads are overclocking as well as the G0 Q6600's, except for the QX models, of course.

I think I am going to try an E7200 and a E8400....I have a water cooler I want to test on it...

What boards (not expensive) are going to be capable of the FSB I need in the P35 set?

Well, of course the DS4 or DQ6, not sure what other lower end motherboards would be good.

I guess something like Gigabyte P35 DS3 or Msi P35 Neo 2 FR will surely give you very high FSB clocks for only a few $.

Were you aware that the E8400 has a 9x multiplier, and the E7200 has a 9.5x multi? Just about any decent P35 board can take either of them well above 4 Ghz, assuming the chip itself is capable. Just don't give these 45nm's much over 1.40v of Vcore, and don't raise the VTT much, and you'll be fine. Let us know what you end up getting out of them, BTW.

Nice to see your return Duvie. As far as the E7200, seems to be a goog oc'r. I have mine clocked @ what you see in my sig. Seems like you only have to bump up the voltage in small incroments to get a stable clock. Nothing like my Q6600 as for voltage bumps. You will be happy with it:)

I'm using a Gigabyte P35 DS3L that I got for $89. Doesn't have RAID, but overclocks like a charm. My E8400 is sitting at 4.01Ghz on it right now.

e7200 will top out around 3.8 stable on air (don't know about water) so 4.0 is a stretch for most e7200 chips while e8400 is easily capable of that with its limit around 4.2 depending on cooling. It'll be interesting to see what the new R0 stepping does for the wolfdales and also whether or not the e7300 will be able to break the 4.0 mark consistently.

4.65ghz E7200 on air cooling in my sig. (although fairly extreme volts at 1.56vcore)

should get you 3.8 - 4.2ghz easy though. You'd probably get it much higher than that.

haha Its supposed to be an "additional two gigahertz" on top of the 2.53 stock.

its like 2.53 + 2.12ghz for 4.65ghz on air. I was going to write that but ran out of sig space.

can't believe this damn e7200 is 129 bucks right now. there is no other chip that can beat that price/perf. (well maybe $60 e2xxx's)

You plan on giving that chip an early retirement? Ouch!

it's not mine, just a ukoc forum picture i found. The guy tried 1.58 to get max air speeds. I think hes running 24/7 somewhere near 4.0ghz

they oc pretty much the same as the e8400's, IMO (maybe a little less on average)
