Anyone have experience with the dell 2000FP (20" lcd)?

Hi,

I'm looking to buy the 20" dell lcd. I currently have the samsung 170T and am pretty happy with it. At the same time, I would prefer the extra real estate provided by the 20".. I have the geforce3 ti500 and I assume that this monitor has DVI input. An aside, how "soon" is the 8500 aiw supposed to come out?

For those of you who own the lcd, or have experience with it:

1) Is the image quality good? I personally think the 1702, their 17" lcd, is a piece of crap.

2) Is the image size too small or is it comparable to the native resolution of the 17"? I had a 19" CRT that did 1600x1200 but it was waaay too small for me.. The size of the text on my 17" @ 1280x1024 is perfect.

3) Is it worth the 1279.20 that it costs? Money is less of an issue, but I dont want to waste it.

What I do on it:
-vstudio
-ssh/x-windows
-office, typical windows stuff
-occasional starcraft game (kicked the cs habit a while ago [yay])

Thanks for any input!

Just posted something on this yesterday morning. I picked this LCD up the Monday before Thanksgiving and I really like it. I moved from a Samsung 6NE 17' CRT to the Dell LCD 20.1" and it was worth it. I run it at 1280x1024 75hz refresh rate, no issues during games like ghosting or stuttering, web browsing, or typing articles in MS Word. I'm currently using a Geforce 2 DDR from Creative Labs so I'm only using the analog connection. WinXP has been giving me issues with my P3V4X motherboard detecting my 10x DVD as 1X so I'm upgrading soon and hope to try the DVI-D connection soon. Make sure if you want to use the DVI connection that your card supports DVI-D, I believe the VisionTek and Hercules Geforce 3 support DVI-D, I'm sure others do as well.

Quality is good, only two slightly stuck "on" pixels that you can only see on a total black background with your face about 2 inches from the screen, other than that no complains here. I compared this model to a couple highend LCD's from Viewsonic that were priced $2100 plus and the Dell has better stats.

bump....

I also own a Samsung 170T and I am thinking of upgrading to the dell 2000fp

Did you ever get it?

I actually did get it.. The screen is pretty damn good.. I usually run it at 1280x1024 and it has a slight affect on the characters (where they look a little blocky) but it is still very acceptable (and yes i'm pretty picky about these things). I sometimes run it at 1600x1200 (I would say the size at this resolution is the same as running it at 1280x1024 on the 170T) but I just have way too much real estate. I'm getting old, the bigger characters help 🙂

Text is amazing, image quality is great (unlike the crappy dell 17" lcd).. The size is just.. You have to see it to believe it. It's just so ridiculous, I was actually embarassed at how big it is.

It's definitely worth the 1279 i paid.

Starcraft is amazingly funny because everything is so damn big. Counterstrike runs well (though I have been having problems as a result of running xp pro, with loading stuff/mouse/sound, the image is great though) and wolfenstein runs perfectly (i run both at 1024x768@75hz)

My setup (you can see my sys rig) is pretty standard with no overclocking or any funny business. It definitely helps to have a dvi graphics card though, the image quality was not as great on my old computer (with the geforce2) but I only tried it out for a few minutes.

I have three bad pixels, but I can only notice them when the backgrounds are a certain color. It's annoying but not a big deal (doesn't really impact anything).

bottom line, if you have disposable income and/or really care about image quality/size of image then get it.

yhlee;
How does the 2000FP do as far as ghosting/blurring is concerned??? Especially in RTCW???
I'm thinking of getting either a 2000FP or a Viewsonic VG191B, primarily for FPS LAN games.
Any opinions/observations/experiences would be appreciated!
