Maxtor has probably been the easiest hard drive manufacturer to deal with on RMA's.
I just used my credit card, as fir3wir3 said, and I was given 30 days to return the defective drive before they would charge my account.
Yes Maxtor does very well. Do the advanced replacement, give them your credit card, they'll send you a replacement hard drive, you send the old one back within 30 days, they won't charge your credit card and your good to go.
I couldn't believe how easy it was. I got 3 x 40.9GB Maxtors and FexEx appears to have used the box for soccer practive. One of the drives was DOA. I called Maxtor and everything was taken care of in 5 minutes with advanced RMA. No runaround and no stupid questions.
