I was looking at purchasing some games online that I could not find locally at any B and M stores, and found this direct2drive site. They have several fairly recent popular titles for only five dollars (Company of Heroes, World in Conflict, some others).

I have read a lot about steam on these forums, but nothing about this site. Has anyone used it and is it a legitimate and reliable place to buy games??

IIRC, IGN / FilePlanet runs them. I have purchased from them in the past. They tend to leave similar DRM on the titles as the retail editions. Steam tends to just use Steam's DRM. An advantage would be that it is standalone, you do not need the run the game via D2D's software once it is installed and activated.

Those games are cheap because they are running a 5th anniversary sale, which ends in like 2 hours.

The anniversary sales led to my first purchases from D2D, and I've been pleased with it.

I've purchased several games from them. Never any issues. Their 5th anniversary sale was awesome.

I bought around 10 games from this during this $5 sale they've been having. Everything seems on the up and up. Great sale, picked up some good stuff.

Looks like they changed the sale end date to 10/12, maybe for the holiday.

Guess this is a sign I should buy Drakensang?

Yea they are legit and one of the nice things, is that with a lot of game you get unlimited downloads. I bought Civ4 and both expansions from D2D and whenever I switch computers/reinstall etc I can just re download and install the game no with problems

Yes I've used them. First purchase was Brothers in Arms: The Road to Hill 30 a few years ago. Just bought three games from their anniversary sale.

They rejected all my attempts to pay them (multiple credit cards, and paypal,) then didn't respond to my request for help for 4 days. It turns out that my freaking IP address location (Fort Polk) didn't match my billing address information (Fort Sill) so they declined the transactions. I walked them through the incredibly complex logic that they were both Army posts, and surprisingly, as an Army officer, I have to travel quite a bit. So they unlocked my account. I asked if I could still get NWN2 for $5 since I repeatedly attempted to purchase them before the sale ended. They said no. I guess I'll just buy all my games from Steam from now on.

I did purchase Civ4 after all for the 5 dollars. I am downloading it now, so I don't know if there are any issues, but I am assuming it will work.

Apparently the 5 dollar deals were extended for at least some titles.

Drakensang and Elven Legacy are still listed for 5 dollars also. Has anyone played either of these games, and are they any good??

Oh man I just barely missed it! I was browsing the games, picked out a couple, and then when I went to check out at 12:03PM it told me the sale was over :(

Stay away from Oblivion on D2D. OBSE doesn't support it because of the encryption and it's necessary for many mods.

The only problem you might run into is running out of activations. I've done this a few times and they always gave me more activations anyway, so it was all good.

For $5 I decided I can live with my game rental status and bought Supreme Commander Gold. I also purchased World of Goo, but it is DRM free!!

I think you got the last of their anniversary special pricing. They just had a 6 week 5th anniversary sale with different genres on sale at different weeks.

I saw WIC and SC for $5 at lunch time, got home this evening and decided to pick them up but they're all back at their original price.

I left for work nine hours ago after starting the Drakensang download (That's the game that tipped the scales for me as far as ordering).

So I come back ready for some fun PC time, and....

there's still 4 hours to go on the download.

I'll have to be more patient.

I finally got Drakensang up and running; what a long download. No problems whatsoever (besides my first download being corrupted for some reason; probably not D2D's fault).

I must say - I'm impressed. I have over 50 games on my STEAM account, but I will be checking D2D for downloads as well fom now on.

Got a major run around trying to buy warhammer online. Support was very unresponsive haven't considered buying from them again.
