Anyone have experience with cell phone insurance to replace stolen or lost phones?

My phone is acting really weird and I want to replace my phone. I was wondering if anyone could please post their experience dealing with your lost, stolen, or damaged phones.

SprintPCS. $35 flat fee and you either get an exact replacement or you have a choice of "comparable" phones. I think you can also use the replacement as a credit towards a more expensive one.

I have Cingular with insurance. When my 8290 broke on me last semester, I brought it into a Cingular store and talked to a CSR to arrange an insurance claim. Since they don't make the 8290 anymore, I got a 3390 . $35 deductible also.

Why would you want the 3390 instead? Isn't it a lot bigger than the 82XX series?
