Anyone have experience with Astaro Security Linux? Questions for Website filtering inside?

I have a couple of questions regarding Astaro Linux for someone. First, the installer file has the endings xxxx.iso.gz. What does that mean? I tried opening it in windows with the .gz extension off and in Linux but it wouldn't open! Can anyone help?

And my second question is, the home version of Astaro Linux doesn't include website filtering or AntiVirus. I can live without the AntiVirus but I wanted to know if there is a good website filtering program for Linux as the place I am working for needs this.

Thank you!

I think you can open a .gz with either winzip or winrar...You just need the iso file inside, which you can then burn to CD.

I use astaro, but not the web filtering...check out astaro.org. They have a good forum there.

WInrar opens it for sure, not sure about winzip tho.

Thanks for the help! See, we need the web filtering because (if it goes through) it will be a public WiFi point and we would want to filter out questionable web sites.

I've only played with the astaro web demo a bit, but I just wanted to toss out my thoughts on public wifi points. Be very very careful here because this could come back to be such a liability for you. Are you planning to filter everything other than port 80 for starters? Not that thats complete security, but just want to be sure that while someone can't surf porn off your connection they can't open a telnet session somewhere. Have you considered something that can rip the packets apart and try to filter based on application? Equally bad to have someone fire up kazaa or something that will happily use port 80.
