Looking at trading in our Prius for a 2011 or 2012 Audi A5. Would like to know experiences with the CPO side of things. Will Audi dealerships ship to one another? May buy new, but CPO is preferred.

Also any owner experiences about their A5? Things to look out for, etc?

Slow, comfortable, pricey. I drove one back to back with a '12 328i, and that 328i felt nearly as quick as an 09 335i I had for a few weeks. Maybe it's just an effect of the thing feeling heavier than it seems like it should.

As for CPO, I couldn't tell you, I do some side work for an import auto dealer, and he loans me cars from time to time for custom work.

Any reason for the A5 besides looks? Coming from a Prius you may be shocked at the depreciation that Audis experience (for that matter, BMW/Mercedes as well). A ~$30k 2011/2012 A5 will lose about 2/3rd of the value in about 5 years. On the other hand, if you truly love the car and it brings you enjoyment, maybe that's $20k worth losing.

It was a compromise really.. I'd like a 3-series, the GF would like an IS250. A5 was in between. I'm still working the 3-series angle, but it'll have to be a convertible if we go that route.

Any specific questions regarding CPO Audi's? I just bought my CPO S4 (2011) back in January).

Not sure dealerships would ship a CPO car to another dealer (unless it was the same company), since the dealer typically has to put a bit of money into the car as part of the CPO certification. On mine, the dealer put new tires, new brakes (rotors and pads), and did the 25k service on my car.

Any warranty work done so far? Smooth experience if so?

The main requirement is the car fits a full-size suitecase as we travel a bit. I really wanted to get another Miata or a used Cayman but it'll be our only car (besides my track rat Miata in progress). We're both getting tired of the Prius and gas mileage isn't as big of a concern now due to us moving closer to work (60mile roundtrip down to under 7 miles).

FWIW -

My last car shopping adventure with the Mrs. sounded very similar... I looked at 335i, IS350, S4 or A5.
Ended up with the IS350 (we use to own an IS250), looking into the future, the Euro car's maintenance and reliability from reviews of friends, family, and the internet scared us away.... and the IS250 I had was awesome, I sold it with 130k miles on it and didn't encounter a single problem.

.... IS350 now has 60k miles on it, knock on wood, no problems yet!

The only work I've had done was the 35k maintenance and replacing a wheel bearing. Audicare took care of the maintenance, and the wheel bearing was replaced under warranty (I'm still under the factory 4 year/50k mile warranty). So, very smooth experience thus far.

The warranty process should be smooth unless you plan to mod your vehicle. If Audi detects you put in a custom tune (for example), they might flag your vehicle as "TD1", which makes warranty claims a lot harder. This depends on dealer however, some accept modifications more than other dealers.

Euro car maintenance scares are only for those that can't work on cars at all.

How many Prius owners know to work on a car?

To answer OP, I wouldn't touch it without good comprehensive warranty ... for many yrs.

This one does, but I've never worked on European cars (my brother OTOH pretty much rebuilt a C5 A6). Only ever owned and worked on Japanese ones before and still work on my Miata.
