I'm in college and home is like 45 mins outside of Manhattan. I know it's cheesy and pretty cliche, but I'd like to take my GF to times square and stay overnight. (the metro stops running kind of early)

The thing is, I've never looked into making hotel reservations in NYC. What kind of pricing should I expect? Particularly on new year's eve? I'm playing around with orbitz and hotwire at the moment. Does anyone know of any other search engines?

If you decide not to go on new years eve or other busier holiday times you can always get good deals on priceline.com. Look at biddingfortravel.com for bidding advice before trying priceline.

The Plaza is going to be closed for renovations for the next year at least.
