My sis got a DVD burner for her comp, but her Cel 1ghz won't do good on DVD burning so she is looking for faster comp. She is on budget so I am thinking about KM400 base mb(she don't game) + AXP + 512MB PC2700 ram. I search on google but couldn't find a review about km400, anyone know if it is any good/bad..etc? It looks like the Gigabyte GA7VM400MP have all the goodie on it like SATA/lan/sound/8 usb...etc.

other option is I pass my AXP @ 2.2GHZ to her and I wait for AMD64 socket 939. Anyone know when 939 is coming?

What you are asking about doesn't make any sense. An Athlon 64 system versus a KM400 system is comparing apples and oranges in everything.

Is this a budget computer that you need or a good computer? If you want el cheapo computer then just build a celeron system with an integrated intel solution.

maybe I am put it clear enough.
My sis is looking for a new system and I will either
1) build her a km400 base system, thats why I want to know if it is any good.
2) I switch my system with her and will wait for the socket 939.

Hot.

I built a km400 based system - used a Biostar M7VIZ - and it is very nice. The principal user doesn't game, and it was a good and not expensive solution IMO.

Via KM400 mobo with s/v/l = $55

Biostar M7NCG nForce2 ultra with s/v/l = $65

--------

You'd be much better off with the nForce2 solution. The KM400 has horrible integrated graphics, and ultra-slow memory performance.

i tried the biostar one but got probs twice. then exchanged for epox km400 board. i also have a km266 chipset MSI. the km266 i think is better, it supports higher resolution/refresh rates.

I have some ECS KM400 boards that i used to setup a cluster. It is actually running surprisingly well. Yes, the graphics suck - but for half a dozen machines that will only have a monitor plugged in to set up the OS, they are great boards.

Good stuff, just ordered gigabyte KM400/AXP 2500+. My sis don't play any game, she just want to burn DVD faster, so it should be good.

Thanks all.

I'm backing up DVD's in 30min using NEC 2500A, Biostar (KM266) with 512 PC133 ram. Backingup includes, shrink + enconde + burn.
