Anyone have dual ins. coverage but an HMO as the primary?

Started my new job and elected not to take insurance because it's an HMO, and my wife is already paying for the family and her coverage is PPO. We decided not to take the coverage here because we thought it would just mess everything up and I may have to start seeing new doctors again because they may not be in network or else we'd have to do a bunch of paperwork. Anyways just wondering if anyone has both HMO and PPO with the HMO as the primary and what kind of issues you're running into.
