Anyone have any luck ocing a i7 in a Cooler Master Centurion 5

Anyone with a Cooler Master Centurion 5 and a i7 have any good luck ocing? My temps are really high but im wondering if anyone has had better luck than me.

If your temps are really high, you need to figure out if it's the case, the cooler, or poor contact.

Take the side of the case off and see if your temps improve dramatically. If they do, you have horrible air flow. If they don't, try reseating your heatsink securely. If that still doesn't work, you might consider a new heatsink.

About 80% of the time, it's usually poor contact between the heatsink and the CPU. Re-seating it should be your first option. An insufficient cooler would come next, with airflow being the last reason I notice that people have poor OC'ing capabilities and temps.

It drops by 10-12 degrees with side panel off.

Yeah, you probably need to work on cable management, get new case fans, mod the case, or just get a new case.

What case fans are you using? Are they controlled by the motherboard or full speed?

the stock fans on that case are kind of anemic, especially the front which is only 80mm anyway. more powerful fans may be necessary.

how is your cable management? it makes a big difference having cables tied up and out of the airstream as much as possible.

I replaced the fans with stronger ones and my cable management is good.

What fans? Specs listed by the manufacturer are quite often bogus. Cut out the fan grills, remove any filters. There are many ways to mod your case to provide better air. A fan in the bottom is easy and works well.

I have the same case. What I did to improve air flow to my CPU is remove the metal plates behind the 2 bottom 5.25" drive slots. I'm not using a drive there, it's just that since the front is mesh and comes with built-in filters behind those covers, it gives the CPU more fresh air. I have a Freezer 64 Pro and, since it's a vertical cooler pulling air from the front of the case, I can put my hand in front of those 2 drive slots and feel cool air being pulled in. You can improve upon this by rigging a fan in that spot, as well. This should create a virtual wind tunnel between that fan and the rear exhaust fan, with the CPU fan right in the middle. I've considered doing this, but my cooling is adequate. Alternatively, if you're using a standard up-facing CPU cooler, consider installing a fan on the side panel above the CPU.

Pictures would be helpful.
