Anyone have any idea when we are likely to see the first Athlon 2400+ CPU's?

I am starting to lose faith in AMD. It is no longer possible to build a high end system around an AMD CPU. At best, the Athlon XP 2200+ is considered mid-range and very soon it will be considered low end. Also, no that there is a 1.7 GHz celeron out, does AMD have plans to bump the Duron up to higher clockspeeds? They've been stuck on 1.3 GHz for quite awhile now. In fact, with the difference in price between the 1.3 GHz Duron and the Athlon XP 1600+, I don't even build Duron systems anymore.

Just wondering when companies like newegg will likely see the first 2400+ and 2600+ CPU's (not to mention the 2800+'s).

If you search pricewatch (there are 4 pages of listings, don;t know which have in stock right now, but accubyte, says ships in 7-10 days), you should find some 2400's as they were out there weeks ago. A guy in Australia, says they have had them for a month. The 2600's are just hard to find, or pre-order only. As for the Duron, the 1.7 Celeron will get beaten by the 1.3 Duron much of the time, as the 1.7 Celery is the P4 core, which is only 1 instruction per clock, where the Duron is based on the Athlon core which is either 2 or 3 per cycle. Whech the benchmarks on Anand and Tomshardware (my two favorites, usually the same results)

Wondering the same thing, not sure when newegg/googlegear will get any shipments, might be a while till they do. I don't know of anyone who has actually ordered one and got their shipment. I have a firend who is waiting for the 2400+ to become available, I keep telling him to just get a P4 already, no telling when the 2400+ will get here. Only time will tell.

1) The Celeron is up to 2.0 GHz.
2) I don't think AMD has any plans to bump the Duron speeds. As you said, there is little reason to use Durons anymore with $50 Athlons available.
3) Some smaller/less reliable companies say they have the 2400+ in stock. I bet it will just take another couple weeks until larger places like Newegg have it permanently.
3) The 2600+ has estimated dates of arrival that vary from October 14, to late October, to November on the sites listed in pricewatch.com. Note: These same sites used to list the estimated date for the 2600+ as October 1st and October 8th. So no one really knows when we can get our hands on this. I'd expect to wait until November.
4) The 2800+ has two rumors floating around: December 2002 and January 2003. I have yet to see a company release a major chip in December - its too late for Christmas shopping and year-end business shopping. Thus the January date seems more reliable.
