I'm getting ready to run some ethernet lines through my house and was wondering if anyone has any good tips they can give me? It'll be going along the corners, doors, and up over the ceiling around 70 feet.
I would go under the carpet if possible. Inside the walls if possible also. If you must go exposed, a company named Panduit makes a good wire molding that is fairly unobtrusive. Various sizes and colors. If you do it right, it is barely noticeable.
I am not sure about the situation you are in. I ran both ethernet and telephone cables at the same time to save some trouble. If you have to do telephone cables do it along with the ethernet so you dont have to crawl through the attic twice.
Tips:
- Avoid AC lines
- Run them through the walls but get an electronic stud finder so you can find all the wood in the walls, particularly horizontal pieces.
i used some conduit channels that you can buy @ any local home depot, but they're fairly expensive (i.e., 4 bucks for a 5 foot channel) -- plus i only saw 2 colors -- while and almond-white.
