I know salvage title usually means that a car cannot be registered again, but some states, like NY and NJ use it to denote a recovered theft, even if its in pristine condition.
I think if I buy the car I will have to have it pass inspection, then get a new title. Not sure if the new one is a standard title or if it just says "recovered theft", or what.
Does anyone have any experience with this? I am trying to figure out if this is a good idea. (i know its risky, but it seems too good to be true)
The carfax has no negative things except the salvage title, and it explains that NY and NJ and other states use salvage to denote a recovered theft regardless of condition. I have inspected the car and it looks great, runs great, etc. I do not know if the warranty is invalidated by the fact that it was stolen, but I assumed so. It is a 2002 model with under 12k miles.
BTW, I have unlimited carfax for the next thirty days, for anyone who helps me out a bit with this or can offer any advice.
