with a week and a half to go until my trip out to LA, today I find out that my cousin (who is the person who invited me out there to visit/stay with her for the week) doesn't really feel like her new house is guest-ready. /facepalm

my flight and car rental are already booked, so I'm not sure how much benefit I'd get out of a "package" site like Expedia or Travelocity, so I figured I'd ask the sages of ATOT for their recommendations on an affordable hotel

my cousin lives in Pasadena, so I'm thinking I should look for something in that area (more so than, say, downtown Los Angeles), hopefully under $150/night (I don't need a luxury hotel or anything, just somewhere to sleep and park my car safely, though free breakfast/internet/parking would be nice)

Standard can be fun if your young, Chataue Marmont is old hollywood. The Sunset tower or Argyle or whatever its called today is the most interesting with its art deco style and small luxury hotel feel. The pool was used in the movie the Player.

If you call the front desk of any hotel and haggle a little they can sometimes budge on low occupancy nights.
