Anyone have any experience with aftermarket warranties?

What are some good aftermarket warranties. I went to two seperate ones and was quoted at one for a 7year/100,000 mile warranty covering everything except fluids/filters/tires/brakes/etc for $1300 with a $50 deductible. The other quoted 10/100,000 with the same limitations for $1800 with $0 deductible. They also had the 10/100,000 for $1500 with a $200 deductible.

The vehicle i am looking into is a 4x4 Jeep Cherokee. The 4x4 adds roughly $500 to the final cost.

Does the first one seem like a good deal?

The first one sounds like a good deal considering the extended warranty on my car cost about 1000 for 75K miles with a 50 dollar deductible. Where do you get aftermarket warranties from?

Most certainly look into the fine print -

Things to look for:

1. Replacement parts - NEW OEM parts, or just the cheapest things they can find?
2. Who pays? Do you pay, and they re-imburse, or do they pay up front?
3. Who much do they allow for labor charges? May not allow you to go to a dealer to get it repaired.
4. What happens if it takes weeks, or even months to get a part that is necessary for proper functioning of your car? Do they give a per deim allowance for rental?
5. I would most certainly try and look up reviews/comments on that brand and see how good they are on following through with their promises.

Make sure you read what isn't covered. The one that you linked excluded a bunch of stuff, a lot of which is covered by my manufacturer's bumper to bumper warranty.

Being a Owner/Operator of a independent auto repair garage I can tell you I won't deal with anyone of them. The biggest reason why I don't is they make me wait 90 to 120 days to paid on the repair work. Plus there is the waste time on the phone getting approval for the diagnosis time let alone the repair. My policy for the last two years is, The customer pays for the repair and then the customer can deal with the aftermarket company themselves.

I would check with your garage before buying one of these packages.

One more thing, watch your maintenance on the vehicle, they have been very shifty about warranting work that doesn't have a good maintenance record. Which I do provide my customers on request.

i am wondering if i should even bother. It seems like most CHerokees last a long time, but once in awhile a bad one comes through.

It's been my experience that no extended warranty with the exception of a manufacturers extended warranty is worth it.

I paid $700 for a 3 year, 40k mile extended warranty w/ $0 deductable from GM. IMHO, it was very much worth it and the service that I received from it was excellent. Take it to any GM dealer and it's honored. Was guaranteed a rental car or a loaner vehicle. They towed my car if needed for free. All parts covered under original B2B were covered under the extended as well.

Unfortunatley, the criteria for manf. extended warranties are pretty prohibative.

I got mine from here about 1 month before my factory warranty expired. I used it twice and had no problems. They include roadside (had to get towed once), take it anywhere you want. Once they authorize the repair, they give the shop a credit card # for payment. They have a number of different plans depending on what you want covered, how much deductable you want, etc.

Do you think you will end up in the shop more than 10 times? If so then go with the $0 deductable.

Actually, I would go for that one anyway, as the length rocks. That is forever. Make sure to check the limitations, and that the underwriter will still be in buisness. If they go under next month, your outta luck.

My dad's '89 Jeep Cherokee Laredo is still running great. The only 'major' repair was replacing the master cylinder and the u-joints (which was my fault ).
