I have an undergrad degree in EE and was looking at doing a night school MBA program when i came across this MEA at a local virginia tech branch campus

http://www.ise.vt.edu/MEA.htm

Seems a lot more down my alley and a lot more applicable to engineering than a run of the mill MBA.

Just wondering if anyone has one or has thought about it. Thanks

Interviewer: So do you have a Master's degrees?
You: Yes, I got an MEA from Virginia Tech.
Interviewer: Well, I'm sorry, but we need somene with a Master's degree.

so you're saying an MEA is useless? or are you saying it doesn't compare with a more technical masters?

just wondering

Considering that ISE (industrial and systems engineering) is essentially a "technical business" degree... this MIGHT be worthwhile, if you're just looking to get an alternative to an MBA.

Also, you should talk to some of the people AT the school and see the value of the degree. For instance, an MBA from a lower-tier school is essentially a waste of time and money.... but a top-tier school (Yale, Dartmouth, Duke, Stanford) can make you a lot of contacts and be worthwhile.

As for the other poster.... a "master's" degree typically denotes advanced study in a field. That's why you usually hear an MBA referred to as an MBA, NOT a masters. Both have their points.... but they are decidedly different ones.

not sure if it's the same as engineering management

although i'm an electrical engineer, I hope to pursue something along the lines of project management in the future, and because of that i figured i would need an mba type degree. i'm not at all interested in a masters of EE or anything.

yes, i'm looking at it as a technical business degree

suppose i'll have to find people in it and talk to them. also have to take the GRE

I have a feeling that it might be same as Engineering Management. NorthEastern University has Masters In Engineering Management program and it is exactly what you are looking for(project management etc).

No I am looking it to it. It seems to have lot os engineering math, economics and probability classes. I really can't afford Engineering Management and MBA both so still looking.
