Anyone have an idea why

Both are S754, under full load, with the same HSF (opteron). It's pretty darned weird. My Sempy was doing 48-50*C under full load, and the 3400 is doing 43-45*C under full load.

Yes, I know these temps are a bit high, but given the ambient temperature in the room, it's not bad. And the ambien in the case is currently hanging around 42*C.

Which case's are you using for these, and what cooling are you using?

This was more of a before and after.

I used the same case, same cooling, ect ect. I just got the 3400+ in and put it in and started her up. I run distributed computing projects that keep the usage pegged at 100%.

The case in question can't be found on newegg anymore, where I bought it, but reads : MGE NINJA CA-NINJA-K (more descriptors ect ect) from the invoice. The case cooling includes 2 exhausts, one side panel intake and one front pannel intake. All of them are 80mm fans.

I've been using an Opteron HSF, the nifty all copper ones with heat pipes ect.

Is the 3400+ a Venice?

My Sempron 3100+ running at 2.6Ghz with 1.60v was hitting around 48C max using a Freezer64 Pro. This was using S&M as it always gave me 3-4C higher temps compared to P95.

I'll be darned, just ran CPU-Z, and it is a Venice. I thought I was getting one of the older ones.

The ambient temperature in my computer room is anywhere from 75-80*F, which has a significant impact on the temperatures of my parts, I know. Which is why I went for getting the 3400+, and it's 2.4ghz spiffyness. The sempron just couldn't stay stable at 2.16ghz, it would randomly crash programs
