Anyone have an idea as to why Cablevision has so few HD channels?

they also have the following you're missing:

CBSHD
HBOHD
SHOHD
STZHD
MSGHD
FSHD
YES HD (when playing boston or the mets)

I think they're on par with the other providers.

got sick of it and went to VerizonDSL. When FIOS comes (in a few months for me), OOL will meet it's maker.
 
A guy from Cablevision called me last night, and wanted to speak to someone who could make decisions on the account. He didnt seem too happy, and i have no clue what he wanted with us. I hope its nothing bad because cablebvision has a legal monopoly around here and i cant get any other decent high speed internet if i lose them. 🙁

I've had OOL for 2 years and have never been capped. I've uploaded plenty of files and used torrents for big linux distros before and never been capped. I guess maybe its because I never uploaded during peak hours.

Unfortunately I have no choice when it comes to cable broadband and I sure as heck wont go to DSL as its slow (compared to cable anyways)..and I hate Verizon anyways. I'll be tempted though when FIOS shows up in the Bronx.

VerizonDSL isn't too bad in comparison (especially because it's cheaper anyway). If you qualify for the 768kbps upload, that's a small difference from OOL's 1Mbps upload limit (which you can't even use for extended amounts of time). The download for VOL maxes can be up to 375KBps, which is plenty. I say fvck OOL and their "undocumented" rules.

Don't you have to pay plenty for those faster DSL speeds?? When my bro had it the most he could download was 150KBps which was fine for him.

Heh... I've been capped 3 different times by OOL. After each time, I was careful not to repeat my mistake. Before I got capped the third time, I was uploading off-peak, and never for longer than 1 hour consecutively. I was being a good boy and made it a point to. Still, I eventually got capped... again. It may depend on how busy your node is... I don't know - THEY DON'T TELL YOU the actual "breakpoint". I made my last call into OOL... (no they didn't terminate me forcefully)

The old limit was 1.5/384. Now, for $29.95/mo. nationally, it's a max of 3.0/768. My area doesn't qualify, but many do... check dslreports.com forums... a lot of people are on it. $30/mo. You have to call them to switch it over though...

It should be available fairly soon in my area, considering I'm basically a stones throw away from the towns it's already available in (Wantagh, Massapequa, Mineola, Syosset).

Once that comes, Fvck OOL, I'll be getting FIOS.

you should also be getting Universal HD and YES HD.

all that's missing is WB and UPN. Except smallville, i can live without both of these two.

My optonline connection has been so sh!tty lately. (2 to 3 Mb down and about 300KB up). Cant wait till FIOS is available in my area.
