Anyone have an Alienware laptop? or know someone who does?

Alienware is its own company, so no, nobody else makes them. I've heard they're pretty good, but they're also super expensive.

Edit: Apparently other people do make identical machines.

My friend has one. Man that thing is expensive and it is BIG. He loves it though, cause he can easily carry it to LAN parties and what not and still be on a blazing fast system. If I had money to burn and wanted to use it as a regular desktop with the occasional haul to a LAN party I'd get one.

i believe the chassis are made by a third party, could be wrong, but im sure i heard somewhere that they are, and then alienware touch them up with their own style and paint.

and of course they buy all the components in

Nope, I can list about 4 different companies that use that chassis, and same basic configuration.

Eurocom
Saeger
PC Torque
Alienware

The basic configuartions (hard drives, screens etc come preconfigured) the rest is installed by the end company.

Hmm...I thought Alienware customized them to some extent. So you can buy the exact same configuration from those other companies?

I've seen the Dell XPS notebook and it's a hot, heavy beast that can do some serious work. I'm surprised a circuit breaker doesn't trip when the adapter is plugged in. The term power brick is appropriate - it is literally as heavy and large as a real brick! :Q

I like it. :)

Check out this site :)

I got an e-machines laptop 2 years ago. It was made by Arima. It is the EXACT same computer as the highend voodoo and alienware at the time, with the following exception

The 9600 had 128 instead of 64mb VRAM
Higher resolution screen
7200rpm drive instead of a 4200/5400rpm drive (luck of the draw led to some people getting faster hard drives in the emachines than others)
1gb RAM vs. 512RAM
Both used 3000+ AMD64

Difference, pricewise? Over $1,000. Except for a few minor changes, it was the same chassis, motherboard, video card. The reseller chose the screen, maybe changed the plastic cover the screen was mounted on, blah blah. $1,000 difference. not worth it. I'll stick with an e-machine laptop, thanks.

Nope they don't customize them at all.

You can get an alienware computer from PCTorque for about half the price.

And Voodoo uses this same design too.

Alrighty, I stand corrected then.

I've heard a lot of bad about Alienware's customer service and warranty services. I'd go with Sager or PCTorque or a Dell XPS if I was gonna spend that much money.

Alienware is a ripoff. Do you watch late-night TV hoping to catch those lovely 30 minute commercials for high-quality products to buy as well? ;)
