Anyone have an A8-3870K CPU yet?

What mobo are you using that supports the unlocked multis?

What is your max CPU core OC?

It's not at Fry's or in stock at amazon yet

I suspect a few people might have them next week :)

Just curious, why the interest? The gpu hinders overclockability and sends voltage requirements through the roof just like bulldozers added integer/floating point units. Furthermore we dont know what kind of impact running both at full load will have on the oc headroom.

BD is on the same process minus a gpu and people get stuck around 4.5/4.6ghz. I wouldnt be surprised if llano does a lot worse than that.

My processor comes sometime on Tuesday, though it is a new build, so I have no intentions of overclocking first thing....

Bulldozer and Llano have two core connections, one is being manufactured on GF 32nm, the other is being designed by AMD, that said, their architectures are severely different from one another. That said, I agree that they may not have as much overclocking headroom as predicted, not because of the base architecture, but because of GF manufacturing, that is, I believe that whatever potential these chips could reach, is limited by the involvement of GF.

It will be interesting to see what additional processors will be released on the FM1 platform before it is retired. I have no pretensions that 'piledriver' or 'trinity' will make it to market anytime soon, so I expect to see additional refreshes in both the am3+ bulldozer and fm1 llano or athlon processors..........

I'm expecting to see up to ~<=4ghz overclocks somewhat regularly, but I think it likely this chip is going to have some trouble reaching over the 4ghz barrier.

How does the GPU hinder overclockability exactly? I've not heard that.

If it's multi-unlocked, my hope is to reach 4Ghz on the CPU core. I don't know if I would do any GPU overclocking.

On the normal A8-3850, the GPU does hinder overclocking because raising the FSB speeds makes the GPU unstable. On the unlocked Llano, this will not be an issue because only the CPU cores will be affected.

@ 3.4 cpu and 0.7 gpu my Llano plays most games pretty well on my TV (1080p). If i had a fully unlocked chip to push the cpu to it's maximum...

Its kinna hard to find thermal studies on Llano, that or I'm just not looking hard enough, but Phenom II had thermal limitations when it came to overclocking so Llano should behave the same way. The new 3850 has a max 72c operating temp which is higher than the 3400 or Phenom II's but still not quite as high as a typical 400 shader GPU. My question is how AMD is shielding the CPU from that heat, or if the heat output is even remotely similar to a standard GPU.

ctosh is on the right track though, it's the 32nm process in doubt. Llano 4 core chips have a higher transitor count than bulldozer and it's on the same process :(. They'll be great chips, I'm not expecting to be impressed by scalability, though.
