Just picked up my Eclipse yesterday...and while I was washing it this morning, noticed that it looked like it had been rear ended (paint looked different on the rear bumper and there was obvious filler work done on the bumper)...now I'm curious what else might have happened to the car.

VIN is 4A3AE55H01E010742 ('01 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder)

If someone can check it up for me, you can either PM me the results, post in the thread or e-mail me at shawnyee at shaw dot ca

Thanks!

rbloedow: why do you have to be such an a$$hole about this?

Yeah...it is kinda stupid doing it after I bought the car...but I bought it from a dealer, so if there is something that is wrong with it, I'm sure as hell gonna take it back to the dealer since they didn't disclose this when I bought it...besides, it's kinda hard to check Carfax while I am out at the lot...

I was just asking to see if someone had the unlimited access to Carfax...back when I bought my first car, I checked up a few for people here as well as friends since it didn't cost me any more to do the search...I just wanted to see if anyone had access that could save me $20...

Anyways, if this is gonna get locked, then so be it...I don't see why it would be...there isn't anything illegal or vulgar about this post...just asking someone to do me a favour.

hehe...almost believed it for a second there...except the title doesn't mention it's salvage and the damage was on the left side. :)

He's asking for a favor and he's suddenly a "cheap bastard"? Excellent logic. Try helping someone out for once...maybe then you won't come off as a complete jackass.

Why wouldn't you have the dealer run the Carfax report at their office? If they refused to do it, I'd walk away in a second. Or, why couldn't you go home and check it and then go back and buy it? Oh well, hopefully you will learn something from this experience....

It didn't cross my mind until I saw the damage today on the bumper. I'm assuming that a dealer can basically say "if you didn't ask, then I won't tell" on something like this.

Yeah...I've learned to get a Carfax from the dealer...I'm sure they probably have it on file anyways...I don't see why a dealer wouldn't get that information right away when they take a car in for trade in. I just got caught up in the purchase that I totally spaced on it...

never buy a car on the spot. find the one you like then check it out extensively. go to kelly blue book dot com and see what the msrp is with current mileage and options and refuse to pay a penny more. it's that simple. with people only getting 3yr leases these days, it's hard not to find the used.... excuse me, preowned (more dealer shenanagans) car that you're looking for.
