Anyone have a way to arrange picture files in a manual order?

So I have a bunch of picture files that have random names and timestamps. I need to arrange these files in chronological order by looking at what's in the pictures and figuring out what order they should.

Is there any way to do a manual sort within Windows or any other program so I can just drag and drop the files around to get them in the order I want?

I eventually want to make a slideshow but need to figure out an order first and am not sure on the easiest way to do that.

Thanks.

I dont think Windows Explorer lets you do that.
ACDSee will work just fine. You can get a trial for 30 days and that should be plenty to let you get your work finished.

Well I could do that once I get them in the right order but I have 100+ files in random order based on their current names so I need to be able to play with them and drag things around until I get them in the proper order.

Hmm. It looks like you can do what you want on the desktop so long as you uncheck "auto arrange" in the right click menu. Im guessing you would have to change the names of the files so they sort correctly before transferring them to a regular folder though.

Yeah but I'd need a gigantic monitor to fit a couple hundred files on there and be able to rearrange them. 🙁 Stupid Microsoft. Used to just be able to turn off Auto Arrange on any folder.

If the pictures have EXIF data you can add Date Picture Taken to the columns that Windows Explorer displays and sort on that.
