Anyone have a Vostro?

I've been tossing around the idea of getting one of those $400 Vostro's with a 19 inch LCD that Dell keeps advertising once a month or so. I'd get a few upgrades for it like more RAM and a decent CPU instead of the 1.8 GHz 1 MB cache thing they have in there on the $400 one. Won't be using it for gaming but may do DVD ripping.

I'm looking for something quiet, small, and energy efficient.

from what i've heard they are pretty much the same as their equivalents in the dimension/inspiron lines. They don't have crapware, which is nice. They look much more businesslike, which IMHO is a good thing, and i've heard the build quality is better, at least in their notebook line, although they are kind of on the heavy side (which i guess doesn't really matter for a desktop). One other thing I don't think they offer vista home premium on the configuration site, which means that if you want the media center stuff, you have to call them and request that they upgrade your OS from basic to home premium (for like $29 or something).

Anyways i've heard decent things, especially since they are really competitively priced. I'd go for it if the specs fit your needs.

a friend of mine has one. Its has little to no bloatware. It doesn't have any "bling" to it. Looks fairly no descript but functions as a very well built laptop. gobucks has it right, it was a bit heavy from my impressions of lifting it.

I've had one for about 2 weeks, and the hard drive is already dead. I'm having Dell send out a replacement. Other than that, the machine appears to be well contructed. My better than my Inspiron 9200.

I use a 1500 at work and I have a 1700 at home. Happy with them both so far.
