Hello. I just bought a dell vostro 1500 with:
intel T5270 1.4ghz 800fsb 2mb l2cache
8400m gs 128mb gpu
1gb ram that i'm expanding right when I get laptop
OS = windows xp pro
My questions are:
1. Does anyone with this cpu experience any noticeable slowdowns using photoshop, dvd burning, some video editing, and games like wow as opposed to a 1.8ghz chip? Why does this chip and its related intel family have 800fsb when the ram runs at 667?
2. The notebook is running windows xp pro, is there a 2gb or 3 gb limit on how much windows will detect? I want to know whether to buy 2gb, 3gb, or 4gb 667mhz ram. If I buy 800mhz ram, will it be noticeably faster?
3. Has anyone with this laptop attempted and successuflly oc'ed the cpu?

I'm a casual gamer, and need to compile surveillance videos for work. I burn DVD's and use photoshop a lot. I thought the computer was a deal at $519, and getting a dx10 video card is a plus for me. Thanks for your input in advance.

1. I'm using a 1.66ghz (T5500 with 667FSB) and I find that while working with large (1.4 gig) photoshop files the HDD is the slowest part of the system, files that fit in RAM are generally fast. In games the gfx card will be the biggest limit.

800mhz ram won't make a diff, cause for 800mhz fsb you only need 400mhz ram (400 in dual channel = 800mhz 1:1 with fsb)

2. 32bit win xp you will only be able to use 3.5gig out of the 4gig. If you ever move to vista, 4 gig would be worth it. More ram will help greatly with photoshop.

3. Depends on many things, especially the cooling system of the laptop. I had mine to 1.9ghz but thats now unstable with the 2 gig ram (or maybe vista). Clockgen is probably your only option to overclock.

i have the t5250 (1.5ghz, 667fsb) in my acer 5920 laptop, its slightly slower than the t5270, but it has performed extremely well for me, silky smooth on vista home premium; but make sure you uninstall/disable any preloaded apps that hog resources, but i recall that the vostros have little to no preloaded crap but just in case.
