Anyone have a VCR that can view PAL (European) tapes?

I bought my gf a movie she saw while living in France called "The Barber of Siberia" that was never released in the US. She specifically asked for this and I had to have it shipped from the UK to the US for her.

Now that we have it, do I realize it's in PAL not NTSC format and our VCR can't view it.

What are my options? I don't want to buy another VCR so she can watch this one movie. There is a local place that will convert the format for $22, more than I paid for the video including international shipping.

So my plea is, does anyone have a setup where they can convert/transfer the movie to a regular NTSC format from PAL for me? I'm open to any other ideas.

Bumps are appreciated to help this gift work!

I dont think there's. I bought my JVC multi system VCR awhile back because of this reason. But now with VCD-it's just much simpler.

Not really, VCD also has ntsc and pal difference.
The us tv is ntsc only (unless you buy an imported pal or multi-system tv), to watch all VCD, the best way is to buy a cheapy china made standalone dvd player that can convert pal to ntsc when output to tv.

those multi-system vcr is still at ridiculous price in the us - at least $500.
pal to ntsc converter is not cheap too - at least $200.
if you only need to watch this only one pal tape, you could try those pal to ntsc tape converison service.

Yeah, it looks like we're going to have to suck it up and pay the extra twenty bucks to just have it converted for us. Thanks everyone for your input.
