Anyone have a Thermaltake Volcano 7?

I want to install one on my P4 2.4b and I don't trust what NewEgg.com says about it (their reviews tend to be a little skewed toward it). Is it much quieter than the Dragon 478 and is it any better in terms of overall cooling of the processor?

Yeah does a pretty good job at cooling but it does get kinda loud at higher rpm's. Its temperature controlled but the thermistor is in an awkward position on the HSF so I don't know how good of a job its doing to control the fan speed. It's easy to swap out the 80mm fan for something else though...just a few screws.

I can't say how it does against the Dragon but I picked up an 80mm quiet fan from CompUSA for $12 and chunked the Tt fan. Very happy with it. Most people toss that Tt fan pretty quick.

The V7 only has one lug on each side to attach to the socket. If you plan to move it around much you might consider the V9. Same sink but with a different fan and a three hole lug on each side. I tossed that fan too because it had a low RPM rattle. But then you are essentially throwing away parts that you paid for which might make the idea less attractive.

I have two volcano 7's both with replaced fans to lower their noise and they work great. It works very well with the original fan, just a little loud for my tastes. The cooling capacity is great for a heatsink/fan setup.

I heard that the Thermaltake Volcano 7+ is difficult to install. Is it true?

not really hard to install....seemed straightforward to me. esp with the pictures they include 🙂
