Anyone have a SN41G2 (Shuttle XPC w/ nForce chipset).

Just ordered one from newegg... This will be my first small form factor PC (even though I built an SS51G for my cousin a couple months ago).

I plan on using an XP1600+, 2 sticks of corsair 512DDR, and a WD 120gig 8mb cache HD. Thinking about using it as a PVR but haven't decided on a capture card yet.
I already own an older winTV PCI card, an osprey 200, and a classic radeon VIVO. But I'm not sure if any of those will cut the mustard (I may post that in the video forum).

What do you think of your SN41G2? Any advice before I have at it??

:)

I have one at the office, and other than the small footprint and "wow factor" it's nothing special IMHO. However to someone looking for a cutting edge rig with some upgradeability it's a nice buy.

As far as Shuttles go, apparently it's noisier than its counterparts. :( If you can handle the louder fan noise, the dual-VGA right on the box is worth it! Wish they would make a 2x PCI version for those who don't plan to upgrade the pretty-darned-decent internal video!

I got it. It's pretty nice. The only problem I had is that it didn't boot after I changed some memory settings. I had to unplug and replug in the power supply while holding the insert key on a PS/2 keyboard. I didn't have that problem while setting it up, though; it just happened today. I had it up for 18 days straight folding proteins (100% CPU power)

Main reason I got it is so I can take it with me when I go home for spring break. I can't take my huge computer on a bus. :)

Here is a good spot for talking about small PCs:

The stock Sunon 36cfm fan can easily be swapped for a quiet 21db Panaflo.

JetBlack69 thanks for the link to sudhian. I'd forgotten about them.

This PC will be in my living room so I wanted that sleek look, and since it'll possibly be a PVR or HTPC it'll look good in my entertainment center :)

For the little bit of research I've done at sudhain forums, it looks like quality memory is a must. I should have that covered mith the corsair sticks coming in...

I may be doing that also :)

I would take the SB-51 instead..the SS41G2 series has quite a few issues with it which have been brought up in www.sfftech.com forums....manily..deady MOBOs and substandard PSU's

I picked the SN41G2 because I already have a spare AthlonXP 1600+ and I like the onboard dual head video and all of the other great things about the nForce chipset. After doing some reading at SFFTECH, it appears that most of the newer ones are being delivered with the better power supply and that the memory quality and settings are very important. I think I have all that covered.
Regardless, it's already in transit, so I'll see how well it really is next week :)

I did build a SS51G for my cousin several months ago and it is awsome too.
