Anyone have a simple solution...

Ok, so I just got back from a party with some friends (I don't drink I just go and socialize and stuff) and at the party the amount of cigarette smoke was amazing. I have exercise induced asthma so i kept stepping outside, but now that I'm back I am coughing like crazy.

Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to just help suppress the cough. I hate smoke and stuff, but no matter what party I go to there is going to be some smoke there.

Cough drops. Long time solution would be to stop going to parties .

Thanks, I'm in college, and I know the smoke is horrible for me (I seriously hate it when people smoke around me) but I like going and socializing. Ill just have to be more careful next time or try to find a party with less smoke. (This was a Radford party, so my school (Virginia Tech) shouldn't be quite as bad in most cases)

If you are "Christian- And proud of it", why do you want to go out to parties with drinking and smoking?

Here's the beginning of the end of this thread.

I'm at college. I can do nothing about the people who drink, smoke, and dance slutty. I go out to have a good time, be with some friends, and meet people who seem half way decent (as far as morals go). I don't partake in it and I dont condone it. You would be surprised the amount of people who said they respect me more for doing that.

But if I dont go to parties and stuff like that where am i supposed to meet people. I can only meet so many in classes at church, and through friends and what not. I'm not going to sit in my dorm room all day and night because I don't like what people are doing. I'm mature enough to know it is wrong, deal with the peer pressure, and not partake in it.

And I dont like how people are singling out my Christianity in this. Would you expect any less from a Buddhist, or a Muslim. The world isn't divided up into Christians and Bad people.

The cough is subsiding now (I guess all that crap is finally almost out of my lungs) and Im going to bed...it is really really late and I'm worn out.

(Oh and I don't go to parties as often as this might suggest. Maybe a party every other weekend or so, if im not there then me and some friends get together and do something, so this crap doesn't get into my lungs too much (I wish it didn't have to get in at all))

Drink a lot of fluids. If you are even slightly dehydrated, your cough will not be very productive. If you have a lot of fluids in your system, it'll hack up in a shorter amount of time.

Well, then you need to go to basket weaving classes, hang out at the senior center, in your community, or something else. You will not beat the smoke, if you hang out at parties...just a fact of life.

Smoking is banned almost everywhere in Hawaii. Public Malls, Restuarants, bars, Schools, Colleges and Universities; smoking banned.

Smoking is really in the minority here. Yes, we have the diehards and kids. You don't see it as often as before. Parties are a drag if people are smoking. If smoking is allowed, very few people attend.

You may want not to attend smoke-outs. You can meet non-smokers elsewhere if that's your preference and not be bothered with smoke. Clubs are great places to meet people. Good luck being your own person.
