Anyone have a sb4100 modem? I need help please!

i am renting a sb3100 modem from my cable company and i get 1200 down with it. When i purchased the sb4100 modem and installed it I now get 400 down? i would really like to save 10$ a month by getting rid of my rental but , no way will I sacrifice the speeds iI am getting? Why is my BRND NEW sb4100 running soooo slow?

are you using the usb connection or the cable connection (to your computer)????
