Hey anyone on this board have a 173T or tried it in person? I just bought one off Dell.com, 15%+25$ off. Came out to 468$, which is ok not too bad. A little less than everyone but nothing insanely cheap...

Anyway I am pretty convinced that this is a good LCD except for the 25ms response time...

I've read reviews continuously But I want to have a 1st person account of someone who actually owns it... You know a "real" person point of view.
I want to know how bad is the ghosting in movies and games if anyone can help me out.
A little bit won't matter to me, especially if its just games and not movies...

I have it using DVI. There's a slight bit of ghosting, but it's not super noticable. If you're into your game, you won't notice it.

Cool, I notice not too many people bought the 173T, i guess the 25MS on paper turned them off...

But since you've already tested it out in person would you still have made the same choice for the 173T?

It is in the same price range as other 16MS 17" LCD, but I went with 173T even though it has slight ghosting because I believe it has better picture quality, color, and more features that are worth the slower response? Am I right on this assumption?

Just wondering how do movies perform?

I only previewed a movie to test it out and I was satisfied with it. It's in the same price range as other 17" 16ms but this model has DVI which I believe is more important than 25ms vs 16ms. I believe the 16ms panels being used in those 17" models can not display as many colours.

The 173T has great picture quality, but the advertised 700:1 contrast ratio is incorrect but it's actually 450:1. I have no regrets buying this monitor, but my one complaint is that I wish the base was a bit more sturdy. It's the nature of the design as you can pivot the monitor as well. The thin bezel is another plus.

The only other model in the same price range I was considering was a Dell 17" DVI model. But I bought the Samsung because it was available locally to me. But I would not look at its 25ms as a reason not to buy it...

Hey Wobble
I just got the samsung 173t... I have to say it is very impressive, but ti can be partly because this is my first LCD...
I've got a few questions, I noticed you play counter-strike... I tested this LCD out in CS and it ghosted to the point I can see it quite often. But not as bad as I would say I can't even enjoy the game. You are right once you get into the game you kind of get use to it. But its certainly something you can't just ignore...

I played need for speed underground afterwards and it was perfect...

Anyway I've yet to test out other games... But so far the CS ghosting is a little bit annoying but can be overlooked. I am just curious though... on your desktop when you move windows around or sometimes scroll faster on your browser with heavy images... Would it have "ghosting" effects where the window/image or whatever your moving is smeared? Because this is happening to me and I must say is the most annoying problem I am experiencing with this LCD...

Other than those problems I'm loving this LCD, but I am considering returning it because of these issues... Just want to hear if you are experiencing the samething, or if this is a problem on my end...

Are you using the DVI connection? People say using DVI can help with ghosting a lot. I personally went straight to DVI and didn't test the analog cable.

There is slight smearing when scrolling in Windows. But I don't think it's a big problem compared to ghosting in games. Any LCD if you look hard, you will notice ghosting. CRTs just beat LCDs in this area no problem.

My CS experiences are fine. I don't really notice it when playing, but do notice it when I'm actually looking for the ghosting. You may be more picky than me though :)
