hi I wonder if you can tell me something by looking at your box or receipt:
I've ordered what is described as a radeon sdr video out -manufacturer's part 100-430059. another site describes this as a VIVO card. the site I ordered it from describes it simply as a radeon sdr agp. I can't find these manufacturer's numbers on the ATi website and I don't want to open up a parcel with the wrong video card, I must refuse delivery if it is the wrong one!
thanks, anyone. what's the card like anyway?

The part number on my 64mb DDR VIVO is 100-430011. Only the 64mb DDR Retail (and some OEM's, but only if they are advertised as such) comes with the VIVO, no SDR version does so it sounds like you are probably getting a non-VIVO version. Another clue might be how much you payed for the card, the VIVO's normaly go in the $200 range.

Boy, sounds like you ordered an OEM with that slower memory SDR on the video card. I guess you got a really good price? What store did you order this from? Is this suppose to be 32 or 64 mb?

There's no SDR with any video function. It's not a particularly good card and nobody should be buying it with the latest pricedrops.

Yes, why would anyone buy an SDR? :Q They are the lowest version of the card. You can get a better card for less. As far as I know, the VIVO cards are all 64 DDR. The OEM version will be clocked @ 166, retail @ 183. If you ordered an SDR, cancel it.

If you are looking for the best bang for the buck, get one of those $92 32 DDR "LE" cards. They are crippled by default in clock speed and HyperZ features. These can both be very easily fixed to make it run the same as a "normal" 32 DDR.

If you need VIVO, you need the 64 DDR. Retail version @ buy.com is about $188.

I must ask. Since I would say you currently hold the # 1 position in the Radeon Basher/Troll category, why the interest in buying one?

oldfart, that's a really stupid thing to say and you know better. or you should do. you are the troll yourself. I invite anyone to search for my posts in Radeon threads. it's a capable card, but there are too many reports of driver glitches for me to jump with it, though with these price drops it is looking better all the time.

(oh the advice is a bit late thankyou, I'm still looking for a new video card luckily)

<< Radeon not on Madonion top 10 user list!

I very nearly ended up with a radeon, but decided that the drivers had a reputation too bad to risk, and that ati never really took fsaa seriously and it doesn't effect in direct 3d. having seen them over the years, I don't like their attitude

I'm puzzled, i would have said it was to do with little memory on your card at a high resolution. another Radeon problem, methinks. what resolution is it at? what's it like at a lower one?

after prowling around the forums, no-one is ever going to convince me that radeon doesn't have big problems, with the drivers. it's common knowledge. it's quoted in website reviews. why deny it?

Taz, your radeon is working well. whoop-de-doo. have you ever considered *shutting up* a bit because you aren't representative? no offence, flameboy.

at college there is a display skeleton from Canada
I'm not sure if he died waiting for ATi support or he actually works for their tech support.
:p

I've seen reviews saying the card wasn't stable at anything over its factory clock

Ok, maybe I was too harsh. I asked you in a previous post for links to the above statement about overclocking. Have one? I always question when someone constantly has negative things to post when they dont own a product, and have no first hand experience with it. There are many people out there running these cards, myself included that are quite happy with them.

So, lets start from scratch. If you look at this forum, you can see that I have been very helpful to Radeon users. I would be more than willing to help you out as well. I did already suggest not getting an SDR and gave you two better alternatives. If you have any other questions, please ask and I'll be glad to help out. :)

oh sorry oldfart, i was editing my post whilst you were just posting! people do whine about the Radeon drivers tho, you gotta admit!

I did get a fright when I thought that Radeon was still coming but I'm still interested and in the market.

Yeah, they do. They aren't perfect, but they are very good. I can honestly say I have very few issues. Most people are waiting for the "DET 3" type driver that will provide a huge increase like Nvidia got. I don't know if we will ever see them.

oldfart, I am amazed at the price cuts on Radeon cards recently. I don't know how ATi can afford it. really, they could conquer the desktop market like this, almost anyone will brave driver tweaks for such a value card. all of a sudden a Radeon is even cheaper than an MX.

even at the SDR end it should be better glitches aside. the Radeon (at least not the LE) is not a deliberately sabotaged card and I wonder if all the MX users realise that.
