Anyone have a P4 3ghz or an Athlon 2800+?

If so, you can do me a big favor. 🙂

I'm considering upgrading to one of these and I'd like to see how my CPUmark '99 file does running on each of these processors. Its a single file, 500k and takes about 20 seconds. I've been using it on my different pentium and amd machines for a few years and would like to get a score for comparison on each of these processors.

I know its not a perfect test, I'm reading plenty of threads and benchmark stats about the two, but I'd really like to see what score this utility gets. Post what you get here. Thx!

Download Cpumark (top) and some benchmark scores

PM me with your email if I can send you the file (cpumark.exe) to run.

Is it me, or would the results of this test vary greatly with mobo and ram?

they'd vary but I don't think they'd vary 'greatly' unless its o/c'd. Like I said its not a perfect test but I want to see what numbers can be gotten.

CPUmark99 doesn't have a huge memory footprint so it is mainly cpu dependent, you won't find much difference in scores for the same cpu.

I like this bench as well, although outdated, it gives a quick idea of overall cpu "strength," disregarding SSE, SSEII, 3D Now!, etc...

It is a nice way to see how all of your systems compare because it has been around so long.

I doubt you'll find anyone with those cpu's around here who will run the test. I have a pretty extensive database of CPUmark99 scores. I don't have the cpu's you mention but I have P4's up to 2.4 and some Athlon XP's.

By extrapolating, it looks like the results would be about:

P4 3.06 CPUmark99 - 200

XP 2800+ CPUmark99 - 190

Remember that the P4 will be better in apps that use SSEII and the Athlon will be better in apps that don't since it has a better fpu. Also keep in mind that CPUmark99 does not test fpu performance.

Hope that helps.

This machine/software is used exclusively for crunching numbers all day. Sounds like it would perform better on a relative basis with the athlon's better fpu resources. I'm hoping (dreaming?) to get higher numbers than that tho to justify an upgrade. 🙁

Thx for the info. Good to know someone else likes this Cpumark proggy too...good little utility. 🙂

About as useful as MIPS in my mind... which is to say completely useless.
Nonetheless, results for you...

AMD AthlonXP 2800+ scored 197
Intel Pentium 4 3.06GHz scored 200

AXP was on a KT400 based mainboard, P4 on an I850E.

Would have posted sooner but I was off work for a few days so I didnt have access to such processors at home.

Got a 210 on an Athlon XP 2100+ @ 175x13 (2275mhz) which is 25mhz higher then the 2800+, but running at a FSB which is 9mhz higher.

I got 148 with my AthlonXP 1900+ running completely stock on my KT333 board. The score sucks but I can game. 🙂

I just got a 215, its a 2.4B @ 3.35 GHz with a Abit IT7 Max2 V2.0
nice o/c. 😀

dang, things sure have come a long way (thank god!). Thats a good timeline. The first machine that I bought for myself was a a 450/p3, and I think that was 36. That was cookin too. 😉

thanks for posting the scores guys, I've been dying to see what this would get...no its not a perfect reference, but I find it still relevant.
