I've been thinking about upgrading to 108mbps, and I like the Netgear WGT634U router. I'm running a D-Link 54mbps router right now (my bro's) - he has a 54g pc card in his laptop, but the rest of the house is running off 11mbps USB adapters (he's moving soon, so I'll need to upgrade anyway - all I have for spares are 11mbps routers). I'd like a little more signal strength and a faster connection and this router seems the way to go (along with 108mbps cards). Plus I can hook up a USB pen drive or hard drive to the router and use it like NAS/FTP server!

Does anyone actually have this router? I'd like to hear what you think.

The "turbo" 108mpbs routers aren't really all they're cracked up to be. There is a speed improvement, but you have to have all of the eqipment be from the same manufacturer for it to be compatible in the turbo mode (or at least have the same chipset). It also increases the possibility of interference from other devices as you're stuck using the designated channels (I think it piggybacks the signal on 2 seperate channels in order to increase the bandwidth).

So, I wouldn't say you need it over a regular 802.11g product, but the prices on these routers have been dropping steadily lately, so if you can find a good deal on one, then go for it. It's a great product, but just possibly not worth the extra cost

I have a Netgear WGT624v.2 (Super G router), and I use it with a HTPC in another room with a Netgear Super G wireless card and a Sony VAIO TR3A laptop. All I have to say about 108 is that it is VERY FAST. You probably won't notice any effect if you're just surfing the internet, but when I moved about 4GB of MP3s from one computer to another, the file transfer was really fast. Definitely worth it if you're going to stream a lot of media or move large files.

Yeah, that's partly why I ask...stuff keeps getting cheaper :) Plus the media router has some neat features like letting you attach a usb hard drive to it. I don't mind buying vendor-specific cards for each computer as long as it will work well.
