Anyone have a mini-itx board with serial port problems?

I built a nice little mini-itx system with a FIC 933 MHz C3 board. I have a remote control interface that attaches to the serial port but it doesn't work for some reason. Other serial devices like a mouse work fine though. The same remote control works fine on my other computers. All are on win2k. Anyone else having problems with this or any EPIA boards?

Is it possible the remote is trying to power the receiver from the serial port and the ITXs just don't supply enough current or the pin it is trying to use for power isn't available at the port to power it? You might just have to break out and supply the power from a wall wart or drive power connector.
