the wife has been wanting to get a maltese puppy and i was thinking about getting one for her bday but would like any info from owners

pros cons, experiances how big do they grow on average they seem very small

how much should i expect to pay for one from a reputable breeder, what questions should i ask?

i am about to email a few off one of the maltese associations breeders list

I use to have one.
I did not purchase one tho. A family friend bred a Maltese and gave us one for free.

Pros:Cute and very playful ( although I've seen some mean ones ).
Cons: My pup was hyper. So was the mother, when it came to visit.

I think you should expect to pay anywhere between 500-1000

They usually run $600-$700 male and a $100 or more female if there from a good breeder..and also depending on where you live. They run about 5-8lbs.. very cute. I used to have one. Be warned..very high maintenance and tend to be very yappy! You have to clean around there eyes a lot because thy have white hair and there tear show below there eyes/ brown. My mom used to pay about $60 a month taking ours to the groomer.

My friend has one - the dog is really cute.

However, he barks NON STOP. He's about 2 years old now and still barks like crazy at the slightest noise. To me, it's even more irritating than a large dog bark.

Also, he chews stuff around the house. He ate the carpet, my shoelaces, etc.

They are house trainable though - she trained him to go on these diaper-like sheets in the house, kind of like a litter box. She said letting him outside would cause his white hair to get absolutely filthy. Also, he needs a haircut about every 8 weeks. They apparently have hair and not fur.

They are hypoallergenic, (she is really allergic to dogs) so if you have dog allergies, they seem like a safe pet to have.

We have one. She was my wife's dog from before we met. She's actually a Maltese crossed with a Shi Tzu (I called her a Shiteese :D ), but she looks like a full Maltese except for a couple of light brown spots., and that she's about two pounds heavier than the average maltese. We keep her hair short in a "puppy cut" not long like most of the maltese you see. They look much cuter with short hair, IMHO. She's a great dog, very smart, very playful. Maltese loooooooooove dog toys, more than any dog I've ever seen. She has a ton of toys, and plays with every single one, it's crazy. She's also extremely well behaved, but that may have to do with my wife's father's training before I met my wife. We recently got a kitten for her to have a friend, and with the way the two play, we wonder how they ever lived apart.

Now that's an extremely gay looking dog.

OP get something more manly will you.
well it will be my wifes dog if we get it so i think she prefers a toy dog rather than a manly dog :p

also the ones she has shown me all have had the hair cut short...not long like that at all that is very fruity looking
