Hey all,

I'm trying to find a known list of audio codecs for motherboards.

Basically I'm just looking for an SLI capable board with a Realtek ALC885 of ALC889 codec (I want something better than just an ALC888).

I don't want a 790i board because I don't have DDR3 RAM.

Any help would be great.

Well this is not the post you wanted to hear but I am biased towards Analog Devices CODECS and the ASUS P5N-T Deluxe has the AD AD1988B codec.

Now granted I have not heard these newer Realtek CODECS but most of the older boards that used them didn't have Coaxial or SPDIF outs so there was no way to get Dolby Digital LIVE, period.

And supposedely their EAX gaming performance left a lot to be desired.

However, I just heard that AD is exiting the motherboard CODEC business so it appears Realtek will have quite the monopoly other than Sigmatel or IDT? which are only used on Intel manufactured motherboards that I am aware of.

IDT (Sigmatel) are used here and there on some boards from Foxconn, ECS, and a couple others. If Analog Devices is quitting PC codecs, it would be highly unlikely that it would not sell those assets to someone else.

I don't know of any such list. Look through the 780i SLI offerings from your preferred motherboard vendors and check the product specs for each model.
