So I need to get a range extender for my Linksys WRT54GS router. I have a spare router, but I don't want to go through the process of adding aftermarket firmware and whatnot. The WRE54G looks nice, but it has really mixed reviews, plus it's a tad pricey at $80. Has anyone had experience with these?

hi

my suggestion to range expander for you is better go for long range anntanes rather than range expanders.

i have 2 range expander in our company to expand the range just few meters away..

its been nearly 1 year ,i still even get a 2 fullday continous signal ..eventhough i update the firmware/...nothing happens

dont go for it..

WRE54G does look nice, but it it a crapshoot at best. Flashing the firmware on your WRT54GS with aftermarket firmware will give you adjustability, which works way better than the WRE in my experience.

There's a review over at Toms Networking for that range extender, I was just reading it this morning. It wasn't very good. You might be better off putting a WAP54G in repeater mode. They're cheaper at Newegg and appear to be easier to configure.
