Home theater pc that is...anyone have one? What software do you run on it? I really can't find anything good out there...preferrably something free.

Just buy an Xbox and mod it! Alot cheaper and can be a good project.

Edit: Do you already have an HTPC?

I have a couple of PC's here that I am debating a use for.

One is a small form factor Optiplex (VERY tiny unit) and a standard sized Dell GX110 desktop.

The GX110 is 866mhz and 256mb of ram - 10gb HD.
The Optiplex is a celly 500mhz and 256mb ram and 10gb HD.

I was thinking of making the Optiplex an MP3 system for my HT, or maybe get a good ATI All in wonder for the GX110 and make it do everything...not really sure to be honest.

I've been setting one up and have been using the trial versions of Sage Tv and Beyond Tv sofar I like Sage Tv the best. I haven't had any luck getting http://www.mythtv.org/ up and running yet but its suppost to be the best and its free. I couldn't even get the KnoppMyth to work.

Also with the lower speed computers you really should look into using a hauppauge pvr-250 for you tv card. Its suppost to be one of the better cards anyway. Read around on the AVSforum and see what they all recomend.
