Hey guys,

I am 21, and i have lost majority of my hair. Its been degrading since i was 18. It got worse when i was 19-21. Anyways, I am interested in doing it, And want to know the experience, any issues during the procedure, the regular duration of the procedure etc. Also, the cost.

I would appreciate it. Also if anyone has done the procedure outside of the USA !

Thanks !

Honestly, learn to live with it. There is 1 fix for hair loss... accept it.

Transplants are temporary fixes and most often look bad. I researched it all and I went with the best transplant... I took a trimmer and transplanted it all the the trash. Not to mention they don't last forever and it will be something you would be spending tons of money on for the rest of your life.

Ohhh the wonder of not having to deal with my hair anymore besides to cut it down once a week.

I have to agree with these guys. I kept it short, would get it buzzed to a #1 every other week. I then got tired of that and started to shave my head. It's pretty easy to do and keeps life easy for me.

I would not try any of those crazy hair treatments either as their have been some pretty nasty side effects. Sometimes you just have to work with what nature throws your way.

I use that instead of having someone do it. Quick and easy, the wife gets the back of my neck to even it out. I do it every week with a #1.

Man, that sucks. I feel bad for guys who lose their hair early b/c it normally makes you look older. If you stay in decent shape it will help you looking young too though. I don't have any ideas on transplants, but my uncle does a huge business in hair pieces. They look very real. Have you thought about that option?

If you have lost all of your hair by age 21 you're not even a candidate. It's too much area to cover.

Even if you could get it done, would you really want to spend $50,000 and have a giant scar on the back of your head?

Just shave it. It's actually considered stylish these days.

Hair only serves two purposes, to keep your head warm and attract women. Luckily, if you make a lot of money you can a buy a hat, and use the remaining money to attract women.

If you don't make a lot of money then you're probably fucked.

(going bald myself in my late 20's)

God made two types of heads ... Those that he was ashamed of were covered in hair.

:)

Hair is over rated.

I do know that Rogaine and the like apparently work pretty well in terms of preventing further hair loss. I've considered trying it (or Propecia), as I've been "shedding" since my mid-20's, but haven't actually followed through on it yet. Just not sure if I'm motivated to take a daily medication to try and prevent a purely-cosmetic issue. Plus, I figure I've made it into my 30's with some hair left up top, so perhaps I should just count my blessings and let nature continue to take its course.

In your case, though, given that you say much of the loss is already complete, the above probably wouldn't help much, unfortunately.

However, all that being said, I know there's no way that I personally would pay for a hair transplant. Even if it worked amazingly, as others have said, I believe it's something that would require continual maintenance and could quickly become prohibitively expensive. All for something that has no adverse health effects other than increased likelihood of sunburn on your scalp.

I noticed my hair beginning to thing at age 24. Started taking propecia and have had fantastic results.

In reality what looks worse. A guy who has shaved his head or a guy who is balding but still has hair.

I can spot the latter instantly these days. My baldness started in my late 20's but I am not completely bald. Far from it, but the hair is thin in the back and I have always had fine hair. I rather not look as though I am desperately holding on to my hair. So I shave it every other day in the shower using the headblade. Works great and gets the job done.

My personal opinion is to save yourself the headache and just be rid of it. Hair is overrated and if you get jumped by ninjas it's one less thing they can use against you.

Have you considered my idea of a hairpiece? Some of them look really natural. They also require routine care and maintenance, so there would be an ongoing cost. But if hair is that important to you, then it could be worth it.

In my opinion, if it's worth it to you, then go ahead and spend the cash on hair.

Seriously cut it down and try it you'll probably be surprised. Worst case out grows back in a few months. I went through years of exactly what you're doing and I'm so happy I gave it a try. When I told my wife she said hell no. A month later she loved it and falls asleep rubbing my head (top one). It's a lot less permanent then spending a shitload first instead of 10 bucks and a few weeks time.

My wife even periodically said I could get the transplant done. I am glad I tried this first as I've read a lot of downsides to the transplants. Also I get a lot more positive comments than I used to.

I still may give it a go, but I'd have to be motivated enough to talk with my doc about it first, which hasn't happened as of yet.

What's the stuff cost nowadays, and did the potential initial shedding hit you very hard during the first few months?

Finpecia is a much cheaper generic from india. I tried both it and propecia but didn't help me and killed my sex drive.

Funny story alert!!!!

One night I wanted to go out. So I looked for some hair mousse. I found some that said in big letters mousse. So I said great. It was a wierd looking bottle though. I put a huge chunck of it in my hair and the whole night I walked around I smelt something funny. Like this wierd chemical smell. I got home went to bed. Got up the next morning still that smell was there. So i took a nice long shower. During that shower my hair started to fallout in big clumps. Im talking like 3-4inches in diamater. I was freaking out. I was 1/2 bald. I took a look at the bottle of "mousse" and in little letters underneath it said HAIR REMOVAL. Only keep in for 15 MINS. I had it in for over 12 hours. So I dont know the pain of going bald but I know what it like to have your hair fallout. Luckaliy all my hair grew back lol. Its a funny story I hope it cheered you up.

Yeah, the sexual side-effects are a bit troubling as well, even if they only occur in a small minority of cases. Supposedly there's the chance of them becoming permanent, although I'm willing to bet that in those cases, it's severely confounded by myriad psychological factors.

Thanks for the info on Finpecia, though.

Yeah I read some horror stories about it and that was the final straw for me. Though I have to admit, the wet noodle dick and no sex drive was right up there too lol.

ok, but you might want to consider it. at least you won't look like you have thin hair plugs or have to take chemicals that can screw with your hormone levels. or just shave it :)

I like that this thread is very pro shaving it. I need to get a picture of myself on here some time with a poll on whether I need to get rid of my hair yet.
