I don't really track free material on the Web, but you can look up Marty Hall. He's one of the best-selling authors of early Servlets books, and I know his book(s) were derived from his UMD instructional material.

As for dead tree versions, the Manning JSP book has been highly influential and well-regarded since its introduction in (late) 2000.
