Anyone have a good guide on how to add a bigger hard drive to my 360?

Sorry mate it's not going to work. The best thing you can do is clone your 20gb HD image onto another hard drive, but then you can only use 20gb still. I don't think that's possible for the 120GB HD, besides you'd have to own one anyway in the first place. There is a SATA connector so that you can take stuff off of your hard drive and store it on your PC for swapping. You can however, store your own media on an external USB HD and use that.

If you keep demos and/or videos on there it actually fills up pretty fast. The 360 hogs almost 7gigs on its own for system stuff, game saves, and all that... so you only really have 13gigs to play with. With each demo being anywhere from 700mb-1.3gig there's not a whole lot of room.

Still, who keeps a demo for longer than a week? Really, after you've played it 20 times, there's not much appeal or want for it 😛

What the heck do you have on it to fill it up?

I have 80 gigs left on my Elite's 120GB drive but I haven't purged outdated material recently. I download a lot of the "Bringing It Home" conference videos from ComicCon, E3, and TGS.

Admittedly, I could delete the demos/videos as soon as I'm done with them but it's convenient to not have to think about it.

I'm well on my way to filling up my 60gb PS3 hard drive. Videos, demos, music... all things that fill it up real quick. That and a few games also install a certain amount of data onto the drive as well.

Once you image the 20gb partition can you mount it on a PC and use software to expand it? What file system does Xbox 360 use?

Here is a guide for replacing the hdd. Another alternative is to get an adapter so you can hook up the hd to your computer and backup the stuff you want to keep so you don't have to redownload it later when you want to use it.

Can't you connect an external HDD?

Yes, but to my knowledge, it can only be used for your own media and not anything downloaded. I don't know too much about it, because I've never tried it.

I download every XBLA game, most demos and have a tv show on it (the free South Park episode 😛). I still have about 2GB left. What I did was delete any crap on it that I don't need anymore (Microsoft prepackages the 360 with a lot of junk videos). I also only delete demos after I get the full game. I only delete videos after I get the demo or full game. Even with that, I don't run out of space. Oh, if I don't like the game or video, I just delete it, but that's a bit obvious.

You can switch out the 20GB for a certain model Western Digital 120GB, but it opens the possiblity that M$ could detect that change and ban your console (although as of yet they have not done it).

Well I only wanted to do it because I have two spare 120gb hard drives. Upgraded the laptop to two 250gbs.....

But It looks like if I ever need it, I will have to spend more money that it is worth.
