I don't like it, and I get real nervous doing so, but I can do it. I used to freak out every time but I have done it enough now that I can just get up and get it over with when I need to. It just takes practice.

i have a huge one...but the biggest factor that got me to overcome these things is confidence...practice in front of a mirror like 100 times....and knowing ur material and smiling alot helps...they say taking a deep breath helps, but never worked for me...just smiling and keeping an upbeat tempo w/ enthuasm helped me tons...good luck dude!

me, too. What helped me was taking a class on Public Speaking at the local community college. It's still not something I would choose to do, but I CAN if I need to.

I found it is much easier to do when have to speak to a room full of strangers than of people I know. But it still sucks to do.

i hate the moment before having to speak and the initial part of speaking, but then it's fine from there

I'm not sure that I'd go so far as to say I was afraid of it, exactly, but if given the option, I'd rather not do it.

I used to, then I became a scuba instructor and had to teach all the time. The nervousness will lessen the better you know your subject matter. The first few classes I did, I was really nervous, then it got much easier.

I also used to speak at schools all the time for "career day" thingies for paramedicine. That was easy, because I really knew what I was talking about after being a medic for several years. It came naturally while speaking to the students because I was so confident with my knowledge of the subject.

The best thing to do is REALLY know your subject, then you will be much more at ease.

Not at all. Guess it helps that I'm an actor? In my latest endeavor a memory play called DANCING AT LUGHNASA, I roll off damn near an hour of speaking across 5 monologues.

Being afraid of public speaking has never really crossed my mind.

it takes several times before i can confidently speak in public. once i am used to it then it's not a problem.

jerry seinfeld (paraphrase):

public speaking is a bigger fear than dying for many people. so that means that at a funeral, most people would rather be in the coffin than giving the eulogy
